Fajarasia.co – Covid-19 cases in Beijing, Chaoyang have increased again. Beijing’s newest Covid-19 cluster appeared in a bar, shortly after the Chinese capital eased restrictions imposed in April.
Quoted from Reuters, Beijing health officials said, so far there have been 166 confirmed cases related to the outbreak which started at Heaven Supermarket bar in Sanlitun area on Thursday (9/6/2022).
The mass testing will take place between Monday (13/6/2022) and Wednesday (15/6/2022) in Chaoyang District, where the bar is located.
Beijing Municipal Government Spokesperson Xu Hejian said that the current Covid-19 outbreak in the city is a vicious cluster.
“At this time, the risk of further spread remains. The most urgent task right now is to trace the source of the cluster as well as to manage and control the risk,” Xu said.
The overall number of cases and deaths from the pandemic remains very low in China when compared to many countries around the world.
Although much of the world has relaxed restrictions, Chinese authorities maintain a zero-Covid policy.
In their zero-Covid strategy, they are trying to eradicate the outbreak early with a number of measures including large-scale restrictions and mass testing.****
