Fajarasia.co- The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) stated that early marriage in children can increase maternal mortality (MMR) and infant mortality (IMR).
In this regard, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy invited all parties, especially parents, to prevent early child marriage.
“Child marriages are feared to have negative impacts such as domestic violence, divorce, cases of stunting or stunting in children who are later born to the emergence of new poor families,” Muhadjir told reporters on Sunday (26/6/2022).
Furthermore, Muhadjir revealed, women who marry under the age of 18 have reproductive organs that are not yet mature enough to support optimal fetal growth.
“Let us together prevent the practice of child marriage. Parents are expected not to marry off their children at the age of children,” he said.
“Give these children the opportunity to equip themselves with higher education. So that later they will become provisions to build a happy household,” he added.
In addition, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture added, a marriage requires readiness to create a harmonious household, both physically and mentally.
“Child marriage can be said to be far from ready. For example, the physical condition of a woman who marries under the age of 18 is feared that her physical condition is not ready to give birth and become a mother,” she concluded.****
