Bekasi City Council Criticizes Electric Car Rental Plan, Urges Focus on Waste Management

Fajarasia.id – The Bekasi City Government’s plan to rent electric vehicles for official use in 2026 has drawn criticism from the Bekasi City Council (DPRD). Commission I member, Nawal Husni, argued that the policy does not align with the city’s most urgent needs.

Nawal emphasized that the administration should prioritize improving waste management facilities rather than allocating funds for official cars. He pointed out that essential equipment such as garbage trucks and waste containers must be addressed first.

“We reject any procurement of official vehicles before the city provides adequate waste management support, including garbage trucks,” Nawal stated on Monday, November 17, 2025.

He further noted that Bekasi’s waste management system remains a pressing issue. For that reason, the plan to rent electric cars is seen as irrelevant to the city’s current challenges.

“If a special committee on waste has already been formed, then the focus should remain on sanitation infrastructure. Policies must not stray from the city’s primary needs,” he added.

Nawal’s remarks serve as a reminder for the Bekasi City Government to carefully set priorities, ensuring that public services and basic community needs are addressed before pursuing symbolic or secondary initiatives.***
